The High Line at the Rail Yards: Inspirations

Interim Walkway at the Western Rail Yards

"Modesty would be its real power."

Last night, the High Line unveiled its first plans for the third and final segment of the High Line, a dramatic and innovative elevated park built on historic freight rail lines on Manhattan's West Side. Wrapping around industrial rail yards, this section of the park will offer a spectacular, unobstructed view of the Hudson River. Rather than ornamenting this final loop, designer James Corner explained that the real goal was not "to design something cool...but [to allow people to experience] what's really cool, which is the context."
