I was approached to design a logo for Rising Phoenix Debate, an organization dedicated to connecting high school debaters with important resources, namely skill-building workshops, college advising, and an enriching support network. I set out to create a scholarly but fun logo. I felt that connecting the organization to the University of Chicago visually would be apt given that the founders are current undergraduates; this was accomplished via the phoenix. The serif font effectively balances both academic and playful elements. I think that the maroon banner can become a symbolic piece of the logo. It infuses a vintage character, harking back to when debates were both entertaining and consequential, a fitting image for a group promoting collaborative debate development.
